Here’s your illustrated Guatemala Spanish word of the day: Heladero for ice cream vendor. Ice cream is in high demand during this recent heatwave. Today I share a traditional handmade ice cream cart. Often, these ice cream carts are found at Parque Central, but often enough the vendors move all over Antigua Guatemala.
This is the newest traditional ice cream cart found at Parque Central. It is shaped like a colorful bus. In this particular day, the ice cream cart was being tented by two young Maya girls.
Another benefit of living in “El país de la eterna Primavera” [the land of the eternal spring] is that we can have delicious ice cream any day of the year.

The traditional ambulant ice cream carts of Antigua Guatemala refuse to disappear. You find them all around the main square as well as in Calle del Arco on the weekends, near Union square and everywhere on the town fair behind the bus terminal during the Fiestas de Santiago.
